Quick one just to end the suspense: I survived. I'm in lovely downtown Manchester at an internet booth, having arrived yesterday exhausted by the ordeal of running the gauntlet of plane/train/Tube/taxi/Tube/train with my monstrous burden of luggage. Chivalry really is dead: I flailed and struggled comically with my baggage, coming very close to capsizing outright, but to no avail. No gentlemanly aid was forthcoming on London's dirty streets.

At any rate, despite the punishment to my vertebrae, I'm having a fantastic time. Tempopo on St Albert's Square is my new favourite restaurant; no word yet on whether Boddingtons Ale tastes better this close to the source. More as it happens.
