The zen monk Basui spent years plumbing his mind, asking 'who'? Where is mind, what and where is the origin of thought, what is thought, does mind examine mind, and is mind all there is; is mind, is there something other than mind and if so where is it? Either mind exists alone, and the who that perceives colour, smells, touch, sounds, emotions etc. is a spontaneous singularity (if so where do thoughts-in-common originate and how does mind direct itself) or else there is something independent and external that influences mind, and if so, it is so elusive it cannot be found. Once mind realizes (by experience, not by intellect) that the only true answer is "I don't know", then, and only then, does fear evaporate, and all is one, and there is no one and nothing to fear. No one can 'save' a person except that person. But true awakening is possible and if it is possible, why pursue anything else until the job is done? Only then can one live a free and compassionate life. The easiest state of personal affairs from which to launch this enquiry is from a state of unattachment. Saint Paul says, be married if you want, but it is almost impossible to be married and truly follow God, because then a person's will is divided. Upon awakening one accepts things, in the words of a zen master, "as they is". And as the Buddha and Jesus both said, the kingdom of god is right here right now, you just don't see it.

I have no idea what all THAT was about. Personally, I think you just hate them less because you know you only have to deal with them for a short period of time. For that same reason, I am finding I despise my workplace somewhat less as well. It's almost cathartic. Or something.

Hmm, Buddhist proselytizing. How delightfully incongruous.

What's the difference between onions and hippies? When you cut an onion, you cry.
